THIS DOCUMENT CONTAINS ALL THE GUIDELINES AND AN EXAMPLE OF THE LAYOUT OR STRUCTURE OF THE PROJECT. IT ALSO SHOWS YOU HOW YOU WILL BE ASSESSED.
BASICS OF THE PROJECT:
Title page
The Title can be something like: “Operations Management Practices of _XYZ Company_ .”
This should be a separate page. You can include a photograph or logo or something here.
Table of contents
The Table of Contents must indicate the headings in the project as well as the page numbers. The Table of Contents must also be on a separate page.
Basic guidelines for the project:
-When in doubt follow departmental guidelines for written reports.
-Use numbered headings and paragraphs. This will make referencesand the Table of Contents easier.
-The project should be typed at 1½ spacing. The Font size should be 12. You can use any Font as long as it is easily to read and not too big. Margins are 2,54cm all around the page.
-Page layout should be portrait. I have presented this document in landscape to fit in the Tables at the end of the document.
-The Page guide for the project is approximately 10 pages, but this depends on how many team members you have.
-You must quote and include your references. Also include a list of references at the back of your project. (This is very important.)
-You MUST submit a declaration to state that it is your own work.
Structure of the project
Here is a basic structure for the project. Notice how I have given structure to the headings. I have numbered them and I have used:
-CAPS and BOLD for the main headings
-Bold, for the subheadings and
-Bold and Italics for the sub-subheadings
1. INTRODUCTION TO THE STUDY[GROUP MUST DO THIS SECTION.]
1.1 Background of the company
In this section you provide a brief background of the company.
1.2 Industry in which the company competes
In this section, you mention something about the industry in which the company operates. You can mention something about the location and if the company operates locally or internationally. You can also briefly mention something about the competition of the company as well as something about the company’s position in the market. For example, are they market leaders or not?
2. STRATEGY OF THE COMPANY[GROUP MUST DO THIS SECTION.]

In each of these sections, you briefly explain each of the headings for the company. Remember to quote the sources.
2.1 Mission and vision of the company
Say something about the missions and the vision of the company. Remember to quote your sources.
2.2 Strategy of the company
Which strategy is the company following? Is it a low cost, differentiation or response strategy? Why do you say so. Justify your answer. Remember that this will be the backbone of your analysis of this company. You will analyze the company (and all the following sections) on the company’s strategy. Eventually, you will have to say whether they are following their strategy or not.
4 PRODUCT
Discuss the various product designs that the company uses for its products or services. Where would you position the company’s products or services in their product life cycles and why do you say so?Is the company managing product design according to their selected strategy (low cost/ differentiation/ response)?
5 QUALITY

Discuss the management of quality in this section. Make sure you answer the following questions in this section, for example, What is the company doing to improve quality?Which of the concepts for an effective quality management program are the company using?Do they make use of inspection?What can you recommend to them in terms of quality?Remember to always explain whether the company is managing quality in line with (or according to their selected strategy).
7 CAPACITY
How is the company managing its capacity? Explain your answer. Do they have enough capacity or do they need more capacity? What do they do if they need more capacity? Is the company managing capacity according to their selected strategy (low cost/ differentiation/ response)?
8 LOCATION
Where is the company located? Explain your answer. Which factors did they consider (were present) when they made this decision? In your opinion, is this a good location? Why or why not? Does the location support their strategy?
11 CONCLUSIONS[GROUP MUST DO THIS SECTION.]

In this section, you have to make some conclusions and recommendations to the company for the way forward. Based on the findings in the project, where do they see themselves in the future? Is the company following their selected strategy? What can you suggest to them? What recommendations can you make to them?
